About Dead Macoys Band

The band is compose of 4 guys of which all are Filipinos. Each and everyone of them came from their own different genre of band before they came up on forming the current one.

History of Dead Macoys

Since they already have their own individual experience of being a member of a band before, and just found themselves together here in Singapore (working on their own each professional career). They put up the idea of forming a new band on which they agreed to play different kind of rock genre music that all of them will agreed as a band.

It was on March 2008 last year, when they also decided to tap their fully new form band to a joint Filipino civic organization for a benefit concert. Together with Alpha Phi Omega Alumni Association Singapore, Pinoy Sunday and PinoySG come up with an organized fund-raising mini rock concert and gig to raise funds for a certain charity organization back home in the Philippines.

The event was named 'Rock and Shoot' and was held at Arena in Clark Quay last April 19, 2008. Other Filipino rock band also participated. It was really a successful event, and at the same time Dead Macoys had the opportunity to be publicly heard, and was furthermore invited to other rock concerts, as well as to some worthy fund-raising activities.

They continued to play at famous Bars like Arena in Clark Quay, Timbre at Old School and some well known bars in Orchard Tower.

The band had already established certain popularity among the rock band enthusiast and particularly to the Filipino community here in Singapore.

Name of the Band

Dead Macoys was the idea of the band's drummer Bimboi and somewhat stand as the band leader. Due to his exposure to punk and hardcore gigs, he came up with this name with the famous punk band Dead Kennedys, but using Macoys instead. Macoy is somewhat a nick for 'Marcos', of which is a known former Philippine president and quite known for being a dictator. However they did not intend to use the name politically and just a coincidental for them to come up with it.

Dead Macoys Rocks

The band usually plays some covered songs ranging to classic rock from Jimmy Hendrix, Funky, Contemporary,a little Southern Beat and some Light music by Sublime. As well as some famous songs from famous bands like Red Hot Chilli Pepper, White Stripes and Black Rose.

But however it was a challenge for them to come up with their own original rock song composition which is a mix influences of all the covered songs that they are playing.

They wish to participate on more gigs and music fest as to share with all the rock enthusiast the same passion they have.

Dead Macoys Band Member

Bimboi (Drummer) - stands as somewhat the leader of the band. He started playing in the band in his high-school days but was deeply involved in the hardcores/punk music his college days, joining some underground music gigs and fest, organized by other independent underground hardcore/punk band in the Philippines. The first hardcore/punk band he played is 'Opress Republic ' which he played with Roland (their current bassist in Dead Macoys). However after some few years, they both parted ways for a moment, and each was again involved in playing to a different band. After some of the members of the 'Opress Republic' went on their own way, Bimboi again form another 3 member hardcore band, but now with his brother 'Pedro' and a colleague named 'Ogie' and they were known as the 'TSA'. TSA band made a different level in the hardcore scene and made a name on the underground scene in Manila as well as also joining some underground scene in Singapore. However while in the TSA band, Bimboi and Ogie was also playing with the famous Manila underground band 'The Throw' which was led by Allan from the very famous underground hardcore band in Manila. However Bimboi needed to find work abroad, particularly in Singapore, and since music runs in his blood. It was here in Singapore that they formed this band, 'Dead Macoys'.

Actually he is an Architecture in profession.

ROLAND (Bassist) - a very long fraternal brother and friend by Bimboi (drummer). They already have so many hardcore/punk underground scene and gig that they played during their 'Opress Republic' days. But after a while departed for sometime and was also quite involve in another band. He played with some funky pop band name 'NOXXIOUS Band' that use to play in different Music Bars in and outside of Metro Manila back in the Philippines.That was the last band that he played before going to Singapore to work, however he is also an Architecture in proffesion,like Bimboi (Drummer) and Deck (Vocalist). It was here in Singapore, together with Dek and Bimboi that they decided to form the Dead Macoys band.

MARK (Lead Guitarist) - they met Mark in one of the music gig in Arena from another Filipino band, Bimboi, Roland and Dek saw his skills in playing the lead guitar. However Dead Macoys had a lead guirtarist then named 'Memeng' before they found Mark. 'Memeng played from a regular band that plays in Chimes. But 'Memeng' needed to go to HongKong with his group and Dead Macoys was left out to look for his replacement. That's when they offered Mark to play with them. Just like the rest of them in the band, Mark already plays with the band eversince from his college days. He used to play with a funky, rock and pop band before he came to work to Singapore. He works as an IT (Information Technology) as his proffesion.

DEK (Vocalist) - was the youngest of the band members, also use to play with the band ever since his college days. He use to play with the band ' ' and was involve in some famous gigs and music fests in Manila, Philippines. ' ' was once invited to play in the famous band fest named ' ' which is yearly organized in Manila by the French Embassy. His genre of music are the funky, pop, classic and local filipino rock music as well as the modern alternative one. Also an Architecture in profession.
